This & That CM Cartridge saves the day!

I am “Queen of the Last Minute Projects”. I have accepted this and now embrace it! Vinyl projects are so very quick and easy…perfect for procrastinators and planners alike!

It’s Catholic School’s Week so that means lots of fun activities for my boys – penny wars (will put us in the poor house!!) crazy hat & tie day, no homework day (yahoo!) and the 4th graders had a day on Thursday where they could dress like they were from the future. Despite Richie’s pleas for a robot costume we decided to do something easier (for both of us – how would he sit? He didn’t care!)

I suggested this shirt – it had a robot on it and mentioned the future (plus I found it on clearance!) What more could you want?

Of course, that wasn’t going to work for him so we brainstormed and came up with this:

A future (space) Olympian!!

I used the This & That Creative Memories Cricut cartridge and cut the images and letters out of self adhesive vinyl.

Good enough for one day’s wear – everything stayed stuck on throughout the school day and even at night for the spaghetti dinner!

He did wear the robot jersey under the hoodie for his music teacher

Countdown To My Birthday - Cakes and Candles Display Accents Everyday Display Layout

I LOVE this new Cakes and Candles Everyday Display kit – it comes with everything shown below…including 2 circles you can use to countdown the days to a birthday! The lighter blue circle has numbers printed on it and you rotate it underneath the darker blue scalloped circle (with the circle punched in it) to count down the days!! It is shown on the Sleek Everyday Display.

How to Create:
Add the green paper as a background to the display.

Add the blue circular number paper to the center of the green paper and layer the round “Countdown to my Birthday” circle paper on top with the circle removed to show the correct countdown day.

Hold in place with a magnet in the center of the display.

Add the banner to the bottom of the display with foam squares only under the middle banners to the countdown can still be rotated.

Add the balloons and cupcake to the display with Foam Squares.

Use the circle maker on a small photo of the birthday boy and add to the center of the circle punch out.

Add to the display with foam squares.

Cricut Cartridge Storage

Sooo many cartridges! How do you store yours? I bring my cartridges to crops so I need to have something portable and easy to use! Below is an idea I’ve seen a few places on the internet and have tweaked it here & there. I hope you find it helpful, too! Let me know if you’ve found a use for those Cricut cartridge boxes – I can’t get rid of them, yet!

What I like best about this storage method is that it’s very portable, easy to use and easy to adjust as new cartridges are added to my inventory.

You’ll need at least one Snapware Ribbon Container. The ribbon container comes with 2 sections- a larger container that will hold about 19 handbooks and a smaller section that will hold about 40 cartridges.

Use Plastic canvas to create the dividers for the cartridges.

Plastic Canvas – #7 (7 holes per inch)

Cut 7 strips – each 59 holes ×10 holes

To get 59 rows by 10 rows you will need to be cutting at 60 and 11.

Cut 5 holes out (upward) at 12, 24, 36, 48

Cut 4 strips – each 39×10 (#of holes)

To get 39 rows by 10 rows you will need to be cutting at 40 and 11.
Cut 6 holes out (upward) at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 & 35

For the handbooks I first remove all non-English pages. This is usually just 3 or 4 per book but it helps out and makes flipping through the handbooks easier. Be careful – some have a foreign language on the front & English on the back. I store the overlay in the handbook.

I use Creative Memories Power Sort Dividers in between the handbooks. I trim a bit from the bottom – about 3/4” – and label them with my handy dandy label maker (LOVE that thing!) sorting these alphabetically.

I use a fine point Sharpie marker to label each cartridge and store them alphabetically. I put a red dot by those that I’ve linked to my Gypsy and a blue CM by my Creative Memories Cricut cartridges because those are the ones I use the most and I like to find them easily. I have thought about just keeping my CM Cricut cartridges together but I don’t think the part of my brain that ~~has OCD~~ is very organized (just a very tiny part – the one that deals w/my scrapbooking supplies) could handle that. I am, however, warming up to the idea of keeping all my Disney/Pixar cartridges and handbooks in their own organizer. Baby Steps.

I keep these tools with my Cricut cartridges at all times: MultiPurpose Tool – the flat end is perfect for lifting delicate pieces from the Cricut mat and also scraping off the leftovers. The pointed tool is a big help when I need to pop out the cut pieces that haven’t separated easily on their own. Precision Point Adhesive Pen – perfect for applying adhesive to those Cricut cuts! Excess adhesive is easily removed with the Pick Up Square. I’m messy. Thank goodness this little tool erases all the dried up adhesive I seem to leave everywhere!!

These tools seem to be made to work with the Cricut - I have a set that I’ve dedicated to using with my Cricut crafts and keep them in another smaller sized storage container. You can purchase this size on it’s own with a divided container that fits inside – perfect place to store extra blades and other smaller accessories.

Now, if anyone has suggestions for those Cricut boxes…

“Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” end of school-year tradition

One of my scrapbooking friends shared this tradition and I thought I’d pass it on to you!

When her son was young my friend purchased a copy of “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss. Throughout the years she secretly gave her son’s teachers the book to sign at the end of the school year. They left notes, poems and some just signed their name. When her son graduated from high school she presented the book to her son at his party. With the party going on all around him he poured over it, going over each page, each signature, each note.
I have one of these special books started for each of my boys and plan on not only having their teachers sign the book but also any other special people/teachers from the school. We switched from a public school to a Catholic school this year and I wish I would have had a few others sign the books last year before we left. I plan on having the school principal, priests, gym teacher, librarian, etc. sign the book next year after they have a chance to get to know the boys a bit more.
I think this would be a great book to give a new mom, along with a note explaining the tradition. I’ve heard from a lot of friends that wish they’d heard of this earlier. I think it’s never too late to start! If it’s convenient you could always go to the teachers and have them sign the book after the year has ended. It will be a special gift, even if you aren’t able to capture every teacher they had!
My friend first learned about this when she was asked to sign a copy of this book for one of her students. She then “stole” the idea for her own son. I invite you to steal the idea, too!

Made to go together–‘Tis the Season & Holidazzle and Noel Collections!

One of the things that attracted me to Creative Memories is how many of their products are timesavers. I love it when they take the time to coordinate items so I don’t have to.

The new ‘Tis the Season CM Cricut cartridge is filled with wonderful, fun images that are great on their own but did you know they coordinate with the Holidazzle and Noel product lines?

“Believe” cut using ‘Tis the Season CM Cricut Cartridge using Green Apple, Silver Shimmer & Black CM Cardstock.

The background paper has this detail printed on it – complete with foil accents. The 12x12 papers that are in the Holidazzle & Noel collections are double sided and each sheet has one side with foil accents and one side without. Hoidazzle has silver accents & Noel has gold. I added a strip of the polka dot paper, grey photo mat and striped paper ribbon from the Holidazzle collection as well as a strip of Green Apple CM Cardstock.

This page uses items from the Noel collection. The ornament on the background paper has gold foil accents. The colors are a bit off - they are a rich looking deep green and red.

Ideas? Can’t get enough of them! Nancy O’Dell’s new Creative Memories book – Secret Ingredients is filled with great ideas!

The book is filled with step-by step “recipes” for creating meaningful gifts that can easily be adapted to use in your album making or other projects. It’s more than just ideas for layouts or other projects. Fun, heartfelt ideas to help you create something really special. Love that!

Fun projects like this one for the Everyday Display are throughout the book. This one is a different way to countdown to Christmas. You make a “To Do” pocket and fill it with tags that list fun holiday activities and then move these to a “Done” pocket when there completed! The book has some great suggestions for activities but of course you could include any traditions your family already does or wants to try.

Lots of sketches in the book, too – to help you get a jump start on your layouts.

Lots of page ideas and other project ideas, like this cute little album meant to be given with a sapling. Each year the recipient only needs to take a picture by the tree and place it in the pre-decorated album! A wonderful way to measure a child’s growth!

A few projects using ‘Tis the Season CM Cricut Cartridge

These are some very quick items I made up to have on my Gift Buffet at my Open House using the ‘Tis the Season CM Cricut cartridge. I use my Open House to reward my customers and to thank them for their business. I have about 15 - 20 baskets on my Gift Buffet that have different events/tasks associated with them. Things like visiting my blog, joining my Facebook group, turning in a Wish List, ordering from my CM website, etc. I have mostly photo & scrapbook related products but like to have some other fun things, too. Like these:

Elf Bottoms – can you tell what image I used to make the shoes? Here’s a hint…it’s folded in 1/2 and cut in 2. Sixlet candies are used for the legs.

Some (very) quick pages made with the new CM ‘Tis the Season Cricut cartridge, Holidazzle & Noel products

Good news & bad news – First the good news – I did get a chance to play with the new ‘Tis the Season CM Cricut cartridge at our fun filled weekend retreat! Bad news – I only got 10 cuts done! 20 cuts, really – but only 10 different ones. 10 were for another CMC that will be making me some cuts from the Best of Times Sampler cartridge that comes with the CM exclusive Expressions 2 – because I haven’t caved ~~yet~~ and bought it! The weekend was filled with lots of fun, wedding crashers, helping out sommeliers in training (otherwise they’d just have to pour out that champagne!) and so many laughs my stomach hurt for a few days after – but not many Cricut cuts

Here are a few pages I assembled (very quickly!!) to give you an idea of how nice the ‘Tis the Season cuts coordinate with the Noel & Holidazzle items. These will all be available on my CM website Nov. 1st!!

I hope you can see the nice foil accents on this paper from the Holidazzle Paper and photo mat pack. The present is cut with ‘Tis the Season cartridge using cranberry cardstock and a Holidazzle photo mat. “Merry Moments” is from the Countdown to Christmas Display Accents kit (more about this at the bottom of this post.)

Each sheet of paper in the Noel and Holidazzle pack is double sided. One side has foil accents, the other doesn’t.

No Cricut cuts on either of the 2 pages above – just a really cute background papers to start with and I added 2 photo mats (all in the Holidazzle paper & photo mat pack) and diecuts from the Countdown to Christmas Display Accent Kit.

Three ways to create a 12x12 custom album:

1) Full Photo Template:
Want to use a photo to fill the entire album cover? Go to the Digital Center, select the full-photo template, upload a photo, add any desired text, preview your coverset and you’re ready to order.

2) Predesigned Templates:
Our ready-made templates are a quick and easy way to complete your coverset. Go to the Digital Center and select one of the template choices. Then simply drag and drop your uploaded photo(s) into the photo openings and add any desired text. Preview your coverset and you’re ready to order.

3) Design it yourself:
If you’d like to create a cover that’s all your own, you can do so using StoryBook Creator Software (for PC) or sbcStudio Software (for Mac). Once you’ve purchased and installed the software, look for the “You Create It Custom Album” project option. When you’re finished creating your custom coverset, order via the Digital Center.

What’s in the Consultant Kit?

I signed up as a CMC over 10 years ago – mostly to get a discount on products but I was also attracted to CM because they focused on helping people complete albums, & make the most of their time. It’s never been about selling stuff for me. I love helping others and am thrilled to be able to share CM products and opportunities with anyone but even though I am very passionate about CM I strive not to be an “in-your-face” type of CMC. The products practically sell themselves. I have found the saying “do something you love and the money will follow” to be very true.

Very soon after becoming a CMC I found myself with a nice little business. Throughout the years, as my family has grown, I’ve been able to work my CM business around them – and am so thankful for the wonderful people I’ve met through CM.

Create a Legacy!

anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor: the legacy of ancient Rome.

How in the world do you create one of those!? Sounds hard – doesn’t it?! It’s not – really! Scrapbooks are the perfect place to record and hand down your own legacy.

How many times do you tell your children things –not just “take out the trash” types of things but really important things. If your kids are like mine then you know that no matter how many times you tell then something they may not be hearing it. Even though my boys hear my words I know they’re not yet of the age to truly understand or appreciate some of them. With my hopes and wishes for them safely preserved in my scrapbooks I take comfort knowing that they’ll always be there – waiting to be read when my boys are ready. Our scrapbooks are filled with family stories, our traditions and history. They’re also filled with photos…lots of photos!

There is a great interview with Rhonda Anderson, the co-founder of Creative Memories, on the Blissfully Domestic blog. She talks about creating a legacy, scrapbooking and her faith filled life.

If you will be coming to Camp Crop-A-Lot with me you may be interested in participating in an optional activity that is a lot of fun - a Goody Bag swap.

To participate in this event you need to bring one gift for each person in your group (including you) and these would be swapped on Saturday with the gifts from the other people in your group. You’d bring home one of each of the gifts contributed in your group (including one of your own). Final numbers will be determined after sign ups are finished – but I like to keep the groups around 10 people.

Past gifts have included items for scrapbooking, pampering items, snacks, handmade items, store-bought items – we always get a wide variety of items. Let me know if you have any questions or need more info!

The deadline to sign up for the goody bag swap is September ^1st. To participate you can email me and/or mark your registration sheet.

It should come as no surprise to those that know me that I am a huge fan of the Creative Memories brand. I love their products so much that I signed up to be a CM Consultant over 10 years ago. CM has helped me preserve my family's history and some of my most favorite memories. Scrapbooking has become such a huge part of my life and CM to me means scrapbooking. I have met so many fantastic people that I probably would not have met if I had never heard of CM.

Below is one of my favorite scrapbook layouts I made using Creative Memories' digital scrapbooking software (Storybook Creator Plus) and CM digital content. If you click on the layout below it will take you to my CM website where you can see the full CM product line and get lots of ideas (be sure to check out the Project Center) and inspiration!

CM is in the final round of an on-line contest to determine Minnesota’s most loved brand. You can read about it here – and also cast your vote. I hope you’ll vote for CM, too!

Family Rules– Done Digitally

I have been seeing a lot of versions of the “Family Rules” on Pinterest (not familiar with Pinterest? It’s a virtual set of corkboards – you can customize them anyway you like and add pictures/links. Very handy for those of us that need to see things to remember them Take a look at my boards. I can send you an invite – quicker than signing up & waiting.) Most of those I’ve seen are done by hand and although I love these I just know I’d spend way to much time on a similar project and before I knew it we’d be out of laundry and food. I knew I could do it much quicker digitally! I saw a 24 (4”x6”) opening frame at Kohl’s and picked it up for about $25. It’s perfect for this project! I put together 24 “rules” for our family in Storybook Creator Plus – creating each one on a 4x6 page and then printed them out. Here’s the final result:

I cut “Graham Family Rules” out of vinyl with my Cricut and am very happy with the results! Here are a few close ups of the frame and rules.

Most of the rules were designed using the Cheerful Power Palette and Additions. There are a few items from other digital kits, but it’s all Creative Memories. I love that about the CM Power Palettes and Additions – they coordinate so well and I don’t have to stress about it.

Creative Memories and Cricut have teamed up again – allowing CM Consultants to sell the new Cricut Expressions 2. Available in October the Cricut Expressions 2 is jam packed with lots of new features. (The images on this blog are of the anniversary edition E2 – I’m not sure yet what color the version will be that I’ll be selling.) I’m waiting on the specific details about this machine (including price) but here is what I’m able to share about the E2:

The Expressions 2 has a full-color, LCD touch screen. You can easily access editing features like auto-fill & quantity and also new tools such as mat preview, which will allow you to organize all of your shapes and designs and see exactly how they'll fit on your mat, before the first cut. With this new LCD color screen you don’t need to use your overlays!

New CM Cricut Traveler Cartridge!!

I (finally) got a chance to work with this newest cartridge from Creative Memories and Cricut. It has 2 fantastic fonts, lots of images that cut and layer easily. This cartridge is perfect to use with travel, water, vacation, tropical/island themed stuff and also has generic tags and phrases you’ll be able to use on most pages.

2011 Calendar Templates – FREE!

Using either Storybook Creator - a free program) or Storybook Creator Plus (SBC+ not free but worth every penny!) you can create really really great gifts very quickly! Below are the templates that are available to download for free! If you are using SBC you can insert pictures into the grey frames and add text to the calendar grid. With SBC+ you can edit the page layout, add or delete frames, add text, embellishments, etc as well as change the format & layout of the calendar. You can also start with a blank template. Lots of options with SBC/+!

The calendars are available in 2 sizes – 8x8 ($19.99) and 12x12 ($25.99) When the year is over you can detach the calendar portion and you’ll have either an 8x8 or 12x12 page that can be put into an album and enjoyed throughout the years!

Be sure to order by December 13th so you’ll have them in time for Christmas gift giving! last year I gave these and they were a huge hit!

“Full of Love” and the Hummingbird Series is now available!

Nancy O’Dell teamed up with Creative Memories to design a new line of scrapbooking items including an album, paper, stickers, paper embellishments, Page Planner templates a fantastic organizer/bag (my favorite part of the Hummingbird Series so far) & more! Her book was released on October 15th and is now available to order.

Nancy O’Dell puts into words one of the main reasons so many scrapbookers make the effort to preserve their memories.

Plastic Drinking Cup Mini – Lights

I got this great idea from Jo K. – thanks, Jo, for sharing!
It’s a set of cute little mini-lights that use Solo plastic cups (3 oz. size) as shades. Once I gathered all the materials these took only about a half hour to make.

The light strand is a set of 10 – I found it in the Dollar Spot at Target – they came with either pumpkin or skull plastic covers and were $2.50.   I also got the Solo 3 oz. plastic cups at Target – they have colored ones. You can see a bit of the green cups peeking out – they coordinate with the Cheerful Halloween Additions I used.

To make these first cut a plastic cup open and remove the top piece and bottom ridge. Use the middle of the cup as a template for your covers and trace around it on paper. Cut out the covers and stick them on the cups. I used the Creative Memories Photo Tape to adhere the edges of the paper to the cup – don’t use the CM Tape Runner for this project – it shows through the paper when the lights are on.
I used the Cheerful Halloween Additions which has 8 pieces of 4x6ish Storybox paper –each one big enough to cover one cup.   I had 10 lights to cover and I didn’t want to cut into the 4 pieces of 12x12 paper that came with the kit so I used a few of the coordinating Storybox papers from the Cheerful Power Palette. The colors coordinate perfectly! I punched a few halloween shapes from the CM Halloween Micro-Maker and glued them to the inside of a few of the cups. This is what those look like when lit:
   I also saw some blue cups that I think I’ll have to get and use with the Winter Cheerful Additions!

I had a little time to ~~play~~ work with the newest CM products and LOVE the new CM – Cricut cartridges! Most of the cuts on these have just a few layers and only a couple have teeny weeny pieces! I am so glad for that! Here are a few cuts I made with CM cardstock and the Reminisce Cricut cartridge.

When Provo Craft updates their website I’ll be able to link these cartridges to my Gypsy or use Design Studio to weld multiples of the same border together to make a larger, continuous one (vs. putting separate identical cuts together to make a border.)

I did a quick layout with each of the new Power Palettes. I’m a pretty simple scrapbooker and love using the Designer Print papers from the Power Palettes –I they are very nice on their own and most need very little (sometimes nothing at all) added to them.

Layout below uses elements from the Reminisce Power Palette and “Cherish” cut with the Reminisce Cricut Cartridge.

Elements used on this page include Designer Print paper, paper flowers, paper frame, paper ribbon, Medium Photo Corners and Foam Squares.

Just a few cuts made with the Cheerful Seasons Cricut cartridge. The little bluebird has a bit of detail added from the new limited edition CM Chalking Inks.

Thank goodness for the Precision Point Adhesive Pen and Pick Up Square…those things are perfect to use with the thin/tiny die cut pieces.

Another simple layout below featuring the Cheerful Power Palette. I used Cheerful Tone-on-Tone Paper, paper ribbon and a paper tag. The page was laid out using the new Page Planner Templates. “Snow”, the snowflake and “2004” were cut from CM cardstock using the Cheerful Seasons Cricut cartridge!

I will be working more with the Cricut Cartridges but will have to wait a bit to work again with the new Power Palettes. I packed them up & sent them with Michelle P. who is having a “Party on the Go” – it’s like a catalog party but with lots of products to see, feel & try out instead of just looking at the catalog!
